Application
Chlorauric acid can be used for partial gold plating of semiconductor and integrated circuit lead frames, gold plating of printed circuit boards, electronic connectors and other electrical contact components. Red glass can also be made. Used as an analytical reagent, it is specially used for the trace analysis of rubidium and cesium and the measurement of alkaloid composition. Also used in photographic materials.
Chloraurates, especially sodium chloroaurate Na[AuCl4] (made by reacting AuCl3 with NaCl), can replace toxic mercury(II) salts as catalysts for alkyne reactions.
At the same time, chloroauric acid has an important application in the preparation of nano-scale gold. Generally, the nano-gold with fluorescence effect is prepared by directly reducing chloroauric acid with a reducing agent, which has important applications in analytical chemistry.
