Application

1. Manufacture of polymers
It is widely used as a polymerization spinning solvent for polyacrylonitrile.
In addition, it is also used as a solvent for urethane production, a solvent for photosensitive polymer synthesis, and a cleaning agent for polymerization equipment.
2. Extraction solvent
It exhibits excellent solubility for aromatic compounds, unsaturated hydrocarbons and sulfur compounds. However, the solubility of paraffin-like substances is extremely low, and the BTX extraction process (IFP) was developed using this feature.
3. Solvents and raw materials for pesticides
Pesticides that are difficult to dissolve in other solvents are easily dissolved in DMSO, and through the strong penetrating power of DMSO, the pesticide will penetrate into the whole tree, increasing the pesticide effect.
DMSO itself is the raw material for the reaction and is used in the production of pesticides.
4. Solvents for dyes and pigments
Using DMSO as a solvent for dyes and pigments can improve stability. The dyeing amount of organic pigments will be improved by the addition of DMSO.
In addition, with an eye toward low toxicity, more and more products have been changed to DMSO as the solvent.
5. Stripper
DMSO can be used as a stripper, and the effect can be improved if DMSO is added to the paint stripper. DMSO is particularly effective in the removal of epoxy coatings.
6. Rust inhibitor
Used as a solvent for a certain rust inhibitor.
In addition, DMSO itself can inhibit the growth of microorganisms.
7. Reaction solvent for pharmaceutical synthesis
In addition to various antibacterial substances such as cephems, it is widely used as a reaction medium and purification solvent for various pharmaceuticals.
8. Cleaning of precision machinery and electronic components
The low toxicity of DMSO is of particular concern. Moreover, putting such items in DMSO, such as freezing and then dissolving, will improve the cleaning effect.
9. Impregnation in polymer
When adding a substance with unstable thermal properties to the polymer, the target substance is dissolved in DMSO, and the polymer is deposited in the dissolved solution and then dried. This method is under study.
10. Distribute to plants
DMSO is also effective on plants.
Plant growth can be promoted by distributing moisture containing DMSO in the plant.
11. Improvement of polymer properties
DMSO can be added to certain polymers to improve properties.
12. Film processing
It is used in the manufacture of various separation membranes such as hollow fibers for artificial kidneys, external filtration membranes, reverse osmosis membranes, and ion exchange membranes.
